INTRODUCTION

People were enwrapped in a somnobulence, they wake up and together they started working in the fields of art and culture. A darkness has engulfed the humanity. The darkness of hatred, violence unruly activities, communal intolerance, exploitation and inequality. Against this darkness Rangsandhan launched an attack by collective by working creatively in various mediums of art and cultural expressions. Several films were produced many ways were written and enacted and as many publications were launched. 15 December 1974 was the day when Rangsandhan made an humble beginning to first against the darkness. It was resolved that by enlighting small lamps light should be re-enter-gised. Slowly but gradually Rangsandhan started assuming a form of an art movement. Two films by Mrinal Sen : "Ek Adhoori Kahani" and "Padatik", a play by Sharad Joshi : "Andhon Ka Hathi" Angelino Sikelianoz's Greek Poem : Suraj Ke Ansh (translated) was made into a film, some plays were staged under the direction of the noted theater director Brij Mohan Shah : "Tiriya Charit", "Khalid Ki Khala", "Yudhman." "Sheh Ye Maat" and "Reechh". A play show casing the power of women. "Ashtanayeeka" was performed at many places. A film centralized on the Mandir-Masjid dispute- "Akbar's Bridge" was produced and screened at various places. Films were made on the eminent creative zealots among whom are : Mrinalini Sarabhai, Kishan Mharaj, Habib Tanveer, MahaSundari Devi, Sheron Prabhakar, Javed Akhtar, Leela Samson, Anita Pasricha, Atul Desai and others. A film deploring politics of war "Ek Lapata Sainik Ki Maa" was screened throughout the country and discussions were organized on this film. A ply based of a Tamil actress- "Shilppaddikaram" was exclusively written to be staged at many places. A timely need was detected to start a thorough documentation of various art forms and so the Rangsandhan dedicated lot of time in doing research and documentation. Thus far last 30th years Rangsandhan has engaged it self in doing creative works with the unwavering support, dedication and cooperation of the like-minded friends and associates. In the times to come we shall continue with our efforts with same conviction and same zeal. The Art Journal Rangsandhan too in an humble part of our art journey. Right from its inception it has managed to make a deep impression among the lovers of art and culture. The exclusive editions based on painting, dance, classical music and theatre have been received with much enthusiasm and curiosity entailing much laurels to our creative efforts.
